Media interview tips

Posted by on May 27, 2013 in Blog | 0 comments

Happy Memorial Day! Hopefully you are one of the lucky ones who is at the beach enjoying the sand and surf, or home watching tennis or the new Arrested Development episodes. I just read an article in the New York Times on public speaking and started thinking about interviews with the media and on how to show you are an expert in your field. The following tips can keep you focused on delivering your agenda, your top responsibility when talking with the press:

  • Bridging – using a transitional phrase that allows you to move into positive territory, stating your messages
  • Hooking – conversational device that “hooks” and then steers reporter to your messages
  • Flagging – phrases that emphasize the importance of your messages

The idea is to always, always control your messaging!
