How important is concise and clear messaging for today’s businesses? Whether you are a startup, emerging growth company or corporation, your market positioning comes down to three phrases – what you want to remember and communicate about your product or service. Remembering is critical and why it is imperative to keep your messaging short and succinct. Your spokespeople need to articulate quickly what you are all about, including at cocktail parties, conferences, in press interviews and analyst briefings.

One of the best things I learned in working with Steve Jobs at Apple was his ability to narrow down an uncomplicated set of key messages that summed up what Apple meant to its customers, emphasizing benefits over features. How were his products going to change the life of a consumer or business user? Simple, easy to use, productive.
